Statement on Results of the 2024 PVUSD School Board Trustee Election

WATSONVILLE, CA – Trustee-Elect Medina release the following statement in response to the outcome of the 2024 Pajaro Valley Unified School District Board Trustee race.

Today, we celebrate a truly remarkable milestone. The elections in Santa Cruz and Monterey County have been officially certified, and this moment (this victory!) belongs to all of us. It is the culmination of a campaign built on the foundation of community, advocacy, and an unyielding belief in the power of people to create real, tangible change. For the first time, we have elected a Green Party candidate to this seat. That didn’t happen because of one person, one speech, or one idea. It happened because of you, because of our collective power, our shared hope, and our refusal to accept anything less than the best for our families, students, teachers, and our schools. To the parents and students, the labor unions, and social organizations—to every single person who knocked on a door, shared a story, or cast their vote, you made this possible. And Monterey County, you pushed us over the top. You trusted me to bring your voices back into our schools, and I will honor that trust with every step I take in this role.

As we enter 2025, we do so in challenging times. The Trump administration has tested our resilience and our commitment to justice. But let me be clear: our community will stand strong. Together, we will protect our students’ rights, ensure they have access to an education that prepares them for life, and build a school district that doesn’t just teach but inspires, liberates, and empowers every single child. I see a district where the voices of the most vulnerable are heard loud and clear. A district that values every mind, every dream, every possibility. I see a future where education is a tool for freedom, not fear; for opportunity, not obstacles. But this work, it doesn’t happen alone. It takes all of us, united in purpose and unwavering in our commitment to each other. So, I ask you: join me. Let’s turn this moment into a movement. Let’s take this victory and build on it—brick by brick, heart by heart, until every student in our district has the chance to thrive.

On Wednesday, December 18, 2024, at the Watsonville City Chambers, I will take the Oath of Office as your next PVUSD School Board Trustee. But I want you to know this: that oath isn’t just mine to take. It belongs to you. It belongs to every teacher striving to inspire, every parent fighting for their child, every student daring to dream. Together, we will reimagine what’s possible. Together, we will transform education, uplift our community, and leave a legacy of hope, progress, and opportunity. I’m beyond grateful, and I’m ready to get to work. Let’s move forward, together.

Thank you, and let’s get to work!

In Solidarity,

Trustee-Elect Medina PVUSD School Board
