Statement on Zohran Mamdani’s Victory in the NYC Mayoral Primary

I want to extend my heartfelt congratulations to Zohran Mamdani on this historic victory. Zohran’s campaign is a clear reminder that when we lead with integrity, honesty, and a commitment to the people, not corporations or political insiders, we win.

Zohran showed incredible strength and grace in the face of adversity. He stood tall against the ugly attacks and the discrimination that too often surfaces when Black, Brown, and immigrant leaders step forward to serve their communities. His leadership is a reflection of the values that so many of us, immigrants, working families, and everyday people, hold close: dignity, fairness, and justice.

As a trustee representing a district made up of families with mixed statuses here in Watsonville and the Pajaro Valley, this moment is deeply meaningful. It sends a powerful message to young people, to working people, and to all of us who have been told to stay on the sidelines: when you lead with the values of the people, when you reject the influence of those who seek to buy our votes or deceive our communities, real change is possible.

Zohran’s win is not just a win for one city, it’s a win for every community that has been left behind by a political system that too often serves the wealthy and well-connected. This is a reminder that a better future is not only possible but already being built by leaders like Zohran.

Gracias amigo, for showing us what principled leadership looks like. From Watsonville to New York, we are inspired by your victory and ready to support you as you continue this fight for justice, fairness, and true democracy.

With love and solidarity,

Trustee Gabriel Medina
